If you love camping and photography, you’ve got to take a moment out of your day to see this slide show and the videos that follow it. I shall say no more (except that I would’ve loved to have been there with my little point-and-shoot camera!).

“Holiday Camping & Birds with Attitudes”
Saturday, July 18th, 2009This post at The Brownstone Birding Blog tells of a Connecticut couple’s Fourth of July camping trip and features some beautiful bird photography, including a little video. I enjoyed it very much. Here’s one pic to start you off:

“Happy Texans: Camping and Geocaching…”
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009Kelly Schumann emailed me that the pictures in this post, which are wonderful, were taken during a trip in a camper, but that her family is going to be backpacking soon, so I decided to let her in
. All joking aside, Brazos Bend State Park is the attraction here, and the Schumann’s beautiful photography, which would be the same even if it had been experienced from the superior aspect of a good tent. (No, I don’t hate campers and RVs, I just love tents!) A pic to whet your appetite:
By the way, my family is also going to start geocaching, or letterboxing at least, when we go camping. Here and here is some information about that, if you’re not familiar with it.

“Dreaming of Dangerous Avalanches” by Klaus M. Auen
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009
I ran across this picture on Flickr and loved it, because the man looks like he’s sleeping so peacefully, yet the pic’s title is, “Dreaming of Dangerous Avalanches.” I had to know the story behind it, so I Flickr-mailed Klaus M. Auen, and this is what he said: “At this moment I was dreaming of a big serac avalanche (ice towers collapsed) just two hours before. That was really scary. We were able to escape by running like Carl Lewis, just a few seconds before it would catch us….”
Talk about some well-deserved rest!
If you read German, you’re in luck, because Klaus has written a book about the experience and how it changed his life, entitled Dem Himmel nah.
