October 24th is “Make a Difference Day,” and I can’t help but mention our tent raffle again. $1.00 MIGHT get you a brand new Coleman Sundome 4-person tent, and WILL bring you the joy of helping to make a difference in the life of a pediatric cancer patient. Goodness, what else can you get for a dollar, a fattening greasy hamburger somewhere? KOA Care Camps will put that money to much better use, getting a child with cancer away from their frightening, painful routine and into the experience of camping, something so many of us take for granted. Go to our sister site, Picture Camping Goods and Gear, to register and enter the raffle, and God bless you for it!

Make a Difference Day
Saturday, October 24th, 2009“Peacock Feathers: Tuesday Eye Candy… Colorful Camping”
Saturday, October 24th, 2009This post consists of three fashion photos with a camping theme, and they are a riot of color! You know me by now, Dear Reader (this is my 600th post since May!), and know that I’m all about glamming things up a bit, and forgoing the camo-colors where and when possible. This photo-shoot represents camping Nirvana to me!
“Nature’s Domain: Camping at Trap Pond, Delaware”
Saturday, October 24th, 2009There is glorious nature photography here.
“Adventure People: Car Camping– Things to Bring”
Saturday, October 24th, 2009This post is odd to me because, although it features a very sensible list of, well, things to bring car camping, the accompanying photo shows a tent in the foreground with the groundcloth used badly. If there’s any chance of rain (and remember, we’re talking camping, here!), the tarp needs to be folded to fit the footprint of the tent, so water doesn’t build up underneath it. And what do those people do, push their tent stakes through an otherwise perfectly good tarp? Or do they just not stake their tents down?!
I see photos like this all the time, which leads me to believe the authors of the post don’t really camp too much at all. Oh, well. Maybe they’re just stupid stock photos.
“Travels with Sheila: Camping in the Sinai Desert of Egypt”
Saturday, October 24th, 2009Okay, suddenly I want to camp in the Sinai, and yes, I want a taciturn ex-Marine to carry my bags. Especially if you get to ride on camels…
Just a Picture I Enjoyed…
Saturday, October 24th, 2009Dear Reader, I’ll break it to you before I do to the hubby: from now on, my vehicle, my tent, and all my gear must match. That is all.

“Nile Guide: Glamping: Glamourous Camping on a Budget”
Saturday, October 24th, 2009
“The current economic state of, well, most of the world,” this article begins, “has spawned some really, really awful new words. “Staycation,” “Funemployment,” “Freegan“…. Another term that’s about as sexy as leftover meatloaf is “glamping.””
While I agree that the term “glamping” is ridiculous and repulsive, I really enjoy the concept! This article lists eight essential elements of luxury to boost your camping experience. It’s short and on point, and I’m down with all of it except the movies; personally, I enjoy leaving media behind when I camp.
“Eartheasy Blog: Lost Hikers May Be Going in Circles”
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009This article describes “lost hiker deja-vu,” the neurological causes of it, and how to avoid (or at least prepare for) it. Well worth reading if your camp outs feature hiking.
“Ingrid Liddle Is Kind of Cute: Camping with a One-Year-Old”
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009Here’s another first-time-camping experience, one that didn’t go smoothly, to say the least. But it’s these trips that make for great story-fodder later.
“Beth’s Garden: A Weekend Camping Trip”
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009In this post, a young couple tent camp with their little one for the first time and have no trouble at all. This is how we all wish those first times would go, right?
